Carlota's Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Tucson

This is by far our favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Tucson, and I’m picky, being originally from New Mexico. The food has all the flavor you could wish for, and the salsa is the best I’ve ever had. We also love the owners and staff - such a cheerful, fun atmosphere! Ricardo knows this is both our regular and special occasion place!I just want to also say “thank you” this week for continuing to provide us great food on a to-go basis. It made me feel a little more normal just walking in the door and being greeted so warmly. Muchas gracias de mi corazón!

Going to Carlota's on Friday night was my mother's in law idea, the place is nice and clean, the live mariachi was awesome. Mi son ordered chicken enchiladas and told me that the sauce tasted funny (I tried it and tasted like the sauce ready to served in tetra-pack) I ordered the special pork in green salsa, no great taste, was salty like something that has been reheating over and over. I believe that most of the people that eat here are mostly Americans, for me is not a great place to eat authentic Mexican food.

Wonderful food and service. So glad to have this authentic Mexican restaurant in Catalina and it’s near my home. I will definitely be a regular customer. Excellent service and extremely clean and nicely decorated.

Best cheese crisp in Tucson. Be sure to order it with machata.

Service was quick. Food was very good, except they put french fries on their Mexican plates. Thought that was weird.

We really enjoy this restaurant. The chili relleno is excellent. Was not that impressed with the tamales, they were good, but had a lot of masa and very little meat. The service is very good, and the prices are fair, we also like the ambiance.

Fantastic dishes! Everything fresh and delicious! Extremely satisfying Mexican cuisine. Friendly, lively atmosphere. Owners definitely have passion for their business, and it's wonderful. Highly recommended!

Since moving here, this became our go-to for good Mexican food. Until last Saturday. One person took our order, then another came to take our order again. Told us it would be about 10 minutes (without explaining why). Ate through our tiny chips and salsa (love their salsa), watched 3 tables who came in after us get their food. The people who arrived when we did were just wrapping up their meal when we finally got ours. NO ONE asked if we'd like more chips and salsa-we waited way more than 20 minutes and were completely ignored. We almost walked out. The grilled chicken in our burritos tasted a bit off and the meat was dry. A first. Off day there or ????????

Food was good, but luke warm, service was very slow and bad. We traveled from phx. 90 miles to meet my family there. It was a big disappointment spending $140. We will not return.

I'm from out of town, and this place was the bomb! Was suggested by a friend, did take out and it was still amazing even after the drive. I got the Cochinita Pibil (never had it before, took a leap of faith, was not disappointed at all!), others got burritos, tacos and quesadilla. All was fresh and authentic! 100% suggest 😁 Plus our order was a little picky and not an ounce of annoyance from the gentleman who took the order. Was greeted and had a good talk with the two men! Super friendly! Definitely a go to the next time we come back!

We went here for dinner on a Thursday night. Plates shown below are a carnitas plate and the tamale and chili rellano combo. My carnitas plate was to die for (best I’ve had from a restaurant). Everyone else in our party wasn’t crazy about their food. Would recommend chili rellano and carnitas.

Out for a drive and stopped here, so glad I did. Cute small restaurant, colorful interior and great staff. Friendly and helpful. The food is down to earth Mexican and wonderful. Unctious beans, flavorful meats. Seasoned well and flavors shine through and aren't covered by too many spices and sauces. A happy discovery I'll be back to soon.

We went for taco Tuesday. The tacos are delicious, we ordered beans and guacamole to go with the complementary warm chips and homemade salsa. The salsa is very good, if you like hot salsa just ask and they bring a bottle of homemade goodness from the kitchen. I have recently moved back to Tucson after living three years in Guymus, Sonora. This restaurant is the closest I have found to food south of the border in Sonora.

Awesome burrito! Ate here with my grandparents and had a great meal! Try “the fat Mexican” if you dare.

Very friendly atmosphere, very good food and services was fast. The food was delicious. My boyfriend and I like to go for lunch and dinner.

I love Carlotta's. I chose this place fir a family reunion lunch. They were so nice to give separate checks and let us choose from the lunch menu.Love the beef flautas, beans and rice...Very friendly wait staff and manager. I have been back many times and the food is always perfect. Salsa is excellent and homemade chips too.

Original, Authentic Mexican food at its best! Topped off with a splash of Mexican ambiance with a Mariachi Group that caters to everyone in the room. And did I mention the amazing Pina Coladas that put a smile on your face. This restaurant is a must for your places to stop and eat. I can't wait to go again.

I was taken there by a gentleman friend for their taco night. I had 2 chicken tacos and a salad. The service was good in spite of the fact they were very busy. I believe the manager waited on us. Very nice man.

The food was authentic style Mexican cuisine. It is a hidden surprise in a little strip mall. It brought back memories of time I've spent across the border enjoying many happy meals with family and friends in Palomas, Chihuahua, Mexico. The food is full of flavor and the atmosphere is pleasant. They have a bar and the margaritas looked delicious! There are mariachis on Fridays from 6-9pm.

Always an enjoyable meal with friendly staff. We've asked them "touristy" questions and they've always been informed and polite. Beyond that, the food is really good. We've eaten here 5 or 6 times and never walk away hungry or disappointed. I love the prickly pear daquiri also!

Clean with good food and reasonable prices.

The cuisine is Sonoran Mexican and the menu is quite original and varied. The service a year ago was maybe 3.5 stars - a bit spotty, but now the service on our last 3-4 visits has been exceptional. Definitely worth the trip!

The food was delicious, staff friendly and very attentive. It's not like other places where you can end up waiting on the wait staff... How funny is that, waiting on the waiters.. :) The venue was very clean, smelled great (I have a very sensitive sniffer). Absolutely loved the salsa, they should bottle and sell that stuff, I'd buy it. If you're in the area and hungry, stop in by, you won't be disappointed.
